JASON YANCEY
Jason Yancey is a cofounder of the Dragoncillo Puppet Troupe, a director and translator of early modern Spanish theatre, and an Associate Professor of Spanish at Grand Valley State University, specializing in Theater. His teaching regularly blends language, literature, culture, performance, and outreach. Since 2010 he has taught a puppetry course where advanced students in Spanish learn to read and analyze children’s literature while they write and produce original puppet shows in Spanish, culminating in several weeks of performances for local Spanish immersion elementary schools. He is a recipient of GVSU’s Pew Excellence in Teaching Award (2015), with nearly 20 years of experience building and performing with puppets for diverse audiences in the United States and Mexico.

THE VILLAGE PUPPETEERS
Building Characters From Felt
The Village Puppeteers of Douglas, Michigan return to share their methods for designing and building puppet characters from inexpensive craft store felt. These techniques produce sturdy, light-weight figures and props, and can be used for making hand, rod, and string controlled puppets. This session will cover all the details of this technique as the Village Puppeteers demonstrate the building of a character from scratch.

On The Bob Brown Marionettes
Joe Emory founded MyAirProductions in 1989, to bring the art of puppetry to West Michigan. In 2013, MyAirProductions established a puppet barn, a performance space and workshop. Recently, Joe has acquired some of the properties from shows created by the Bob Brown Marionettes who were featured on Mr. Roger's Neighborhood in the 1970's. Joe will share with us the details of restoring these puppets and brining these shows back to life.

The Legend of Joan of Arc
Eight years in the making, this film from writer/director Steven Ritz Barr features the provocative and endearing Joan of Arc as his protagonist. “The Legend of Joan of Arc” is an impressive mid-length feature film with a cast of 25 carved characters by Russian master puppet-maker Eugene Seregin.
